2018 Flood

Mike Duest shows his character during the August flood of 2018. A lot of water did not stop him. He figured out a way to get out of the farm (back roads) then orchestrated his family to find new vehicles prior to going on vacation at the end of the week.

Over Riverside Road

Mike has lived all of his life in the Verona area. Have the Sugar River go over the driveway happens every couple of years. The cars are parked at the end of the driveway and a tractor is used to go through the water.

2018 was the first time the Sugar River flooded over Riverside Road and over top of 4 vehicles!

The Bridge is Still There

Past floods don't go over the private bridge, but this flood did.

You can barely see the wooden bridge, but it is coming back. It had been covered with 5 feet of water in the August 2018 flood.

Where are the vehicles?

That's easy, they are underwater! 4 of them! You can tell from the telephone poles that the water has gone down af few inches.

Usual floods go out to the 2nd telephone pole. This water can be driven through with the tractor.

Vehicles are resurfacing!

Yea, the vehicles are back, but they don't work. The corn faired a whole lot better.

The water came part way up the hill. It took a couple of days to come down. Mike has dealt with the Sugar River all his life. Never like this. He never gave up.

Private Bridge Returns

The 2018 flood was so unique. The private wooden bridge on the farm was under 4 to 5 feet of water. This has NEVER happened before. The water was part way up the hill.

Dead Car Alley

The cars resurfaced after all the water went down, but they DID NOT RUN!!!! The family had to find/purchase 4 vehicles, which was taken care of within 3 days. Mike looked to get deals.

How High was the water?
